Lumos Controls supports demand response capabilities through integration with EISY, an OpenADR-certified gateway from Universal devices, developed in accordance with standards from the OpenADR Alliance. OpenADR (Open Automated Demand Response) is a secure, open, and bidirectional communication protocol that plays a critical role in Smart Grid infrastructure.
During periods of peak demand or potential grid instability, the OpenADR gateway communicates via serial interface with the Enor EU gateway, which acts as the intermediary for real-time demand response events. In turn, the Enor EU gateway interacts with Lumos Controls devices, enabling them to automatically adjust energy usage by activating predefined, configurable scenes — ensuring optimized energy consumption while maintaining operational efficiency
The steps to automate Demand Response for Plug Load Controls are as follows:
- Commission the Enor EU gateway
- Choose the zone from the top right corner in the app into which you want to commission the device
- Go to the 'Devices' tab, then Click on the '+' button and choose the option 'Add Device'
- Power/Repower the Enor EU gateway and it will come to commissioning mode for next 3mins.
- Click on 'Tap here' and the device will be listed
- Tap on ‘+’ icon against the Enor EU tile to add in to the system.
- Select and save the time zone where the gateway is installed (Location is optional).
- Select and save where the gateway to be pointed. Use Edge option only if you are using Iris E Edge device.
- Configure the UART parameters as follows
- Baud rate: 115200
- Data bits: 8
- Parity: None
- Stop bits: 1
- Configure the Wi-Fi/ Ethernet with SSID and password to connect GW to internet. It also provides option to configure a Static IP if needed.
2. Configure the ADR commands and light actions
Follow these steps to configure commands
Open the Enor EU app
Navigate to:
Device Settings → AV Integration Settings → Control Lights from AV Keypad
- After navigating to ‘Control Lights from AV Keypad’ and uncheck the "Include <CR>" checkbox below the command header
- Enter the ADR Commands and configure corresponding light actions (Scenes) as given below
For information on how to create and configure Scenes, click here
c. Tap the Settings button in the light action box.
d. Select the required Scene from the dropdown list and tap OK.
After all these configurations, when an OpenADR command is received by the Enor EU gateway, the Green LED on Enor EU will blink rapidly, and the light devices will go to the configured scene based on the commands.
