The total hours of occupancy detected by a sensor in a day shall be computed by taking the cumulative sum of durations for which the sensor detected presence for that day. One minute shall be considered as occupied if the sensor detects motion at least once in that minute.
The occupancy duration of a floor/zone/group shall be computed as the unique duration to which the sensors have contributed such that the maximum occupancy duration computed for a floor/zone/group in an hour shall be 1 hour irrespective of the number of sensors. For example, consider two sensors S1 and S2 in a group/zone/floor:
- If the 2 sensors detect motion at the same time, say 10:00 to 10:30, the occupancy duration for the group/zone/floor the sensors belong to shall be 30 min.
- If the 2 sensors detect motion at different times, say S1 detects motion from 10:00 to 10:30 (30 min) and S2 detects motion from 10:45 to 11:00 (15 min), the occupancy duration for the group/zone/floor the sensors belong to shall be 45 min.
- If the 2 sensors detect motion for overlapping time durations, say S1 detects motion from 10:00 to 10:30 and S2 detects motion from 10:15 to 10:45, the occupancy duration for the group/zone/floor the sensors belong to shall be 45 min.
