DALI Emergency Tests that can be done

Every emergency gear conforming to the DALI emergency gear standard IEC 62386-202 is able to carry out an emergency test when commanded across the DALI bus – either a short (function) test or a discharge (duration) test. DALI enables the automation of tests for self- contained emergency lighting.

  • Function test: A function test is a quick test that usually takes between a few seconds to 1 min to complete. This test checks the operation of the emergency light source from the battery supply and gives quick feedback on the device, battery and lamp statuses.
  • Duration test: A duration test is a longer test which takes 1-3 hours and is usually carried out annually. This test can give feedback on the device’s current battery status, lamp status and ensures that the battery will be able to operate the lamp for the full rated duration.

Lumos Controls provides the flexibility to configure function and duration tests for either individual DALI control gears (drivers), or for groups. These tests can be initiated either manually or automatically by scheduling based on the capability of the connected DALI emergency driver.
