Over-The-Air (OTA) update allows the addition of new services to the existing devices. There are two types of OTA Updates - Connected and Mesh
Connected OTA can be further classified into two types:
- Local OTA – wherein the OTA update will be done using the files stored in the device (i.e. Browse from the device)
- Cloud OTA – wherein the OTA update will be done using the files stored in the Cloud (i.e. Check for updates)
Points to consider while performing an OTA update
Connected OTA
- OTA update takes a few minutes to complete – 1 minute for Nordic devices and 15 minutes for T-Link devices (approx.).
- The devices to be updated must be in ON state and shouldn’t be rebooted.
- When carrying out connected OTA Update, the light device must be in close proximity with the Bluetooth device (phone or tab).
Mesh OTA
All devices of a device type in a Zone can be updated in one go using the Mesh OTA update feature. Mesh OTA updates can be initiated from the Web UI.
- Ensure to check the device reachability before initiating the Mesh OTA Update.
- It requires a Gateway connected to the cloud to be present in the Zone.
- In case the device is rebooted, the OTA update will be re-initiated automatically.
- The Mesh OTA takes approximately 3–4 hours to get completed.
- The Blue and Green LEDs in the Gateway will be steady throughout the OTA update and then move to Connected Mode, where the LEDs will flash every 1 second.
Note:
- The OTA Update can be done only for Controllers, Drivers, Sensors and AC-powered switches.
- The Gateways are automatically updated
